Immanuel Wallerstein is a senior research scholar in the department of sociology at Yale University and director emeritus of the Fernand Braudel Center at Binghamton University. He is also a resident researcher at the Maison des Sciences de l’Homme in Paris. His many books include The Modern World-System and Historical Capitalism. The New Press has published After Liberalism, The Decline of American Power, and a collection of his works, The Essential Wallerstein. He lives in New Haven, Connecticut, and Paris, France.
As with many such books, I found that I will need to read it again later as our daughters grow, but one of the merits of the book is that it does address issues of concern at many ages.
Several of the twin interviews seemed to be too short -- the interviewees likely had much more to say and while it would be tedious to read pages and pages unedited, doubling the length of many of them in the next edition would illustrate the points better.
On a minor issue, the book can be annoying in some places where pronoun use renders the passages confusing. This is a nice and informative book. But here, we have them all in a package of other complementary materials making up a complete collection of Ali, the erstwhile American hero, all in one place.
A stellar array of famous talent from across the intellectual and sports firmament, all wax eloquent about Ali. This book was insightful and deeply personal. An excellent investment for all flutists!. Christopher Robin
