Robert A.F. Thurman is the Jey Tsong Khapa Professor of Indo-Tibetan Buddhist Studies in the Department of Religion at Columbia University, President of the Tibet House U.S., and President of the American Institute of Buddhist Studies. He is a talented and riveting speaker on the Buddha’s teachings, voted by Time magazine as one of its 25 most influential Americans in 1997 calling him a "larger than life scholar-activist destined to convey the Dharma, the precious teachings of Siddhartha, from Asia to America." popularizer of the Buddha's teachings. He is authored many books on Tibet, Buddhism, art, politics and culture, including Circling the Sacred Mountain, Essential Tibetan Buddhism, The Tibetan Book of the Dead, and, most recently, Why The Dalai Lama Matters.
It lends a more intimate view of the individuals and somehow makes it all the more real.
If you have an intrest in the subject matter i highly recommend this book. So, try to muddle through - there are always amazing graphics to help you along and the Big Mac / Starbucks analogies are pretty sweet too.
This book - amazeballs. I attached a photo of a page that I'm coloring in with glitter gel pens, and also the page underneath to show that there was no bleeding through, and even though I color like a mad person with a fast and heavy hand, there are also no indentations. What is brilliant about the book's treatment of these problems, is that while it is placed in a specific place and time (Naples in 1950s), it gets to the universal effects these problems create in people's lives from childhood onwards. Gaitley shows in this book how to consecrate yourself to Mary in a way that is easy to understand and follow. Most of the exercises can be done with minimal equiptmen
